Can I use SNAP EBT to pay for my online order at H‑E‑B?
Yes, SNAP EBT is accepted on heb.com and in the My H‑E‑B app for both curbside pickup and delivery orders.
Can I check out using only my SNAP EBT card?
Yes, if your entire order contains only SNAP-eligible items and no additional fees or substitutions are required.
Can I adjust how much to charge my SNAP EBT card?
Yes. While checking out on heb.com or in the My H-E-B app, you can adjust how much is charged to your SNAP EBT card by tapping the pencil icon next to the payment amount.
You can split payment between your SNAP EBT and another payment by adding a credit card, debit card, or H‑E‑B gift card.
What happens if I don’t have enough SNAP balance to pay for my entire order?
If you find that you don’t have enough SNAP funds to cover your entire order, you can add a debit card, credit card, or H-E-B gift card as an additional payment method to cover the remaining balance.
Why am I being asked to add a credit or debit card when I’m using my SNAP EBT card?
While we do accept SNAP EBT benefits for curbside and delivery orders, some items and fees are not covered under the SNAP program. Examples of costs that cannot be covered with your SNAP EBT benefits:
- Personal shopper fee
- Delivery fee
- Driver tip
- Items ineligible for SNAP
- Substitute items that differ in price from your primary item
Additionally, if your order total is more than your available SNAP benefits balance, you’ll need to cover the difference with a credit, debit, or H-E-B gift card.
What can’t I pay for with SNAP EBT?
SNAP EBT cannot be used for delivery fees, curbside fees, personal shopper fees, tips, or non-eligible items.
What happens if items in my order are substituted?
SNAP EBT will be applied to substituted items if they are eligible. A secondary payment method may be used if the substitution is not eligible or if the price differs from the original item.

Why is my SNAP EBT card being charged 10% extra for weighed items?
All stores accepting SNAP online payment are required by USDA guidelines to charge an additional 10% of the estimated price for weighed items (such as vegetables, meat, etc) to account for weight variations. If the final price is less than what you were charged, we’ll refund the difference to your SNAP EBT card at pickup or delivery.
Do SNAP eligibility rules ever change?
Yes, SNAP eligibility for certain items may change over time based on state or federal guidelines.
