Rub an oven-safe glass 9" by 9" pan with butter. In a bowl whisk together garlic oil, milk, Alfredo sauce and thyme.
4
Remove potatoes from water, drain briefly and make a single, overlapping layer of potatoes in bottom of baking dish. Spoon sauce over and add a layer of green onions, cheese and black pepper.
5
Repeat with additional layers of potatoes, sauce, onions, Parmesan and pepper until all ingredients are used. Finish with a layer of sauce and Gruyère cheese.
6
Cover and bake 1 hour. Uncover and continue baking for about 15 minutes to brown cheese.
