Medicare Overview

Do I qualify for Medicare?

All American citizens and permanent residents over age 65 qualify for Part A Medicare if they meet one of the following requirements:

  • Eligible for or receiving Social Security benefits.
  • Eligible for or receiving Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Worked in a government job for a minimum amount of time during which payments were made into Medicare on your behalf.
  • Living, deceased or divorced spouse met any of the above criteria.

Are there plans that cover my doctors and prescriptions?

Medicare beneficiaries have the option to receive their Medicare benefits through private health insurance plans, instead of through the original Medicare plan (parts A and B). These programs are known as Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. MA plans also offer prescription drug coverage. If you already have Medicare, you can enroll in a MA plan between 10/15-12/7.
