Unsaved Strawberry Poke Cake

Ingredients

  • 14 1/4 oz super moist white cake mix
  • 1 cup(s) whole milk, or 3/4 cup water if preferred
  • 1/2 cup(s) vegetable or any neutral oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 oz strawberry gelatin
  • 2 cup(s) water, 1 cup hot water and 1 cup cold water
  • 16 oz whipped topping, or as needed for icing cake

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease 9" x 13" oven safe baking dish and set aside briefly.
  2. In a bowl combine cake mix, milk, oil and eggs. Whisk until batter is smooth.
  3. Pour batter into prepared baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center pulls out clean.
  4. Place uncovered cake on a rack to cool completely. While cake is cooling, make gelatin dessert according to package instructions then pour into a measuring cup.
  5. Once cake is fully cooled, use 2 wooden skewers to poke holes approximately 1/4 inch apart all around the cake.
  6. Slowly pour entire gelatin mixture around the holes to allow it to soak in, creating colorful streaks in the cake.
  7. Cover cake and refrigerate overnight or at least 8 hours to allow gelatin to soak in and set up.
  8. For serving, frost top of cake evenly with whipped topping. Cut and serve.
