According to the National Marine Fisheries Service, Gulf Brown Shrimp are not overfished, making this a sustainable fishery. All U.S. Gulf Shrimp Boats utilize TEDs (Turtle Excluder Devices) which prevent the accidental capture of turtles and other large marine animals. Additionally, BRDs (By-catch Reduction Devices) are used to reduce the harvest of unwanted seafood species in the catch.
