Description
This wine offers a shiny, pale-gold color in the glass. There is remarkable finesse and elegance, with aromas of white flowers, acacia honey, honeysuckle and white fruits. The palate is rich, ample and delicious with a hazelnut finish. Best paired with appetizers, fish tacos, shrimp ceviche or a variety of cheeses. Also delicious with lobster and poultry.
This is the almost Romanesque story of a wine closely linked to the soil, a superb white burgundy nourished and fashioned by a first-class terroir . Pouilly is a little winegrowing hamlet attached to Solutré. Fuissé is a picturesque, prosperous village, typically Burgundian. Their limestone slopes are very steep, both well exposed and well protected.
The surprising profile of the twin rocks of Solutré and Vergisson stand out against the sky like the prows of two ships. Beneath them, the most prestigious vineyards in the Mâconnais, Cru Pouilly-Fuissé, cling to the slopes with a mixture of pride and gentleness. Alexis Lichine compared the two promontories to the twin rocks of Gibraltar, the famous Columns of Hercules, which close the Mediterranean off from the Ocean. Much sought-after by connoisseurs from the five continents, approximately 75% of Pouilly-Fuissé s production is sent straight to the export markets. This is no surprise as, in its best expression, it is the quintessence of Chardonnay, a great white Burgundy, full of finesse.
