Plumcot Guide

Now in Season
Many of the plumcots that H-E-B carries are available a limited time. So when you find some, be sure to grab as many as you can, because once they’re gone, they’re gone until next season!

What It Is
A plumcot is a hybrid fruit resulting from careful cross-pollination of the apricot and the plum tree. By crossing different varieties of plums and apricots you get different varieties of plumcot. The resulting fruit is wonderfully sweet and great to eat straight, blend into a smoothie, chop into a salad, or make into a sauce!

How to Select
Though there are many varieties of plumcots, the rules for choosing them remain the same. A ripe plumcot will have some “give” when squeezed.

There are many colors of plumcot—red, speckled, even green—so don’t limit yourself to just one.
How to Store
Keep plumcots at room temperature until ripe—they should be soft, juicy, and aromatic.

Once they’ve ripened, plumcots will keep in the refrigerator for a week or more.
