Ingredients

Recipe makes 6 Servings

1/2 cup(s) sugar
3 Tbsp ground cinnamon, (optional: in Spain, churros are rolled in sugar only)
1 cup(s) milk
4 Tbsp butter
1 Tsp salt
1 cup(s) flour
3 large eggs, beaten
2 cup(s) vegetable oil for frying
1/2 cup(s) dark chocolate
1/2 cup(s) heavy cream

Instructions

Combine sugar and cinnamon together in a shallow dish. Set aside.

In a large sauce pot, bring milk, butter and salt to a simmer. Then stir in flour. Continue to stir until a ball of dough is formed.

Remove from heat. Mix in the eggs.

Transfer dough to a pastry bag with a star tip.

Heat oil in a heavy bottom dutch oven over medium-high. Once oil is hot, pipe out 3 to 4 inch pieces of dough into the oil.

Cook until golden brown, then toss in sugar. Continue until all of the dough has been fried.

Melt chocolate and heavy cream together in a microwavable safe dish. Stir well and serve alongside the churros.

Chef's Note: in Spain churros are only rolled lightly in sugar.
