Ingredients

Recipe makes 8 Servings

3 egg, whites
1 Tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 Tsp cream of tartar
1/8 Tsp salt
1 food coloring
1 cup(s) sugar

Instructions

Heat oven to 275°F.

Bring egg whites to room temperature in a small mixing bowl then add vanilla, cream of tartar, salt and food coloring. Beat to soft peaks.

Gradually pour in sugar, beating until very stiff peaks form and sugar dissolves.

Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Spread 1/2 cup meringue for each individual heart, or make one 9-inch heart. Bake 1 hour.

Turn off heat and let meringue dry in closed oven; 1 hour for small hearts and 2 hours for large heart.
