Five Spice Apple Crumble

Recipe makes 12 Servings

4 Tbsp unsalted butter, additional 1/2 cup butter melted
1 Tsp Chinese Five Spice
1/2 cup(s) sugar
4 cup(s) Fuji apples, cored and sliced thin
1 lemon, juiced
1 Tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup(s) Slaton Farms Gingerbread Snaps, crushed into crumbs

In a sauté pan add 4 tablespoons butter, Chinese Five Spice, sugar, apples, lemon juice and vanilla extract. Allow to cook over medium heat for 20-30 minutes or until apples are caramelized and liquid has thickened like a thin caramel sauce.
While apple mixture is cooking make crumb topping by adding 2 cups of gingerbread snaps to a food processor and pulse until you have small breadcrumbs.
Melt butter in microwave and pour 1/2 cup of melted butter into crumb mixture and pulse to combine. The mixture should resemble moist sand in texture.
Pour cooked apple mixture into a smaller oven safe casserole dish, scoop out crumb topping mixture and spread it out evenly over the top of the apples. Bake in a 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes or until crumb topping has hardened and liquid is bubbly.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
