Something to Taco About
Here's the dish on this Tex-Mex favorite.

Tacos are a family favorite here in Texas, and if you do it right, you can eat them every day of the week. From traditional pulled chicken tacos that have been sold on the streets in Mexico for generations to grilled veggie tacos that have a more modern take, here’s a handy guide to tacos seven days a week.

It's a Wrap
The question used to be soft or crispy, but today there are plenty of other options for tortilla shell. Here’s a quick guide of the tortillas on hand at your local H-E-B:

●       Corn- Simple and authentic, plus, many are gluten free
●       Flour- Buttery and made fresh in store every day
●       Wheat- Many of us have swapped to wheat bread, and wheat tortillas boast the same benefits

If you’re looking for a low-cal option, try wrapping swapping a tortilla for a large leaf of lettuce. You’ll still get the crunch of a taco without all the calories to go along with it. Plus, it’s gluten-free and lower carb!

Taco Filling
From flank steak and rotisserie chicken to pot roast that you can set and forget, there are different ways to prep meats, fish, and veggies. From the grill to the crock pot, here are a few of our favorites that range from Tejano favorites to new:

●       Ground beef, turkey or chicken are perfect to use for a quick picadillo-style filling
●       Sliced flank steak is perfect with grilled peppers and onions
●       Grilled flavorful seafood like salmon or shrimp pair nicely with corn tortillas
●       Pre-marinated beef, chicken and pork fajitas are family favorites
●       Leftover rotisserie chicken or slow cooked beef roast can be easily shredded and seasoned

Top It Off
Using herbs and veggies like cilantro, tomatoes and onions, you can take your tacos to the next level. Here are a few to get you started:

●       Cilantro, onions and tomatoes
●       Shredded cheese, cojita cheese or sour cream
●       Lettuce, spinach or slaw
●       Pico de gallo, salsa, or a squeeze of fresh lime
