Our Spice Islands saffron threads come from Spain, home of the annual Saffron Festival. Deep orange-red in color, the threads are unbroken and dry (not oily). They have a musky, flowery aroma and an earthy warmth with a lingering bitterness. Saffron is a favorite spice in paella, risotto and Scandinavian sweet breads.
