Numanthia Tinto de Toro

Product Description

The harsh climate and dry stony soil make life difficult for the vines but also stopped phylloxera gaining hold here in the 1870s. Most of Toro's vines were planted more than 50 years ago, though some are even older. Spaced three meters apart in rows, each vine has room to find enough moisture in the clay subsoil some five meters down, making irrigation unnecessary. In these conditions, yields are naturally limited to between 3,000 kilograms of fruit per hectacre, among the lowest in the world.
