A hot steaming bowl of organic oats can warm a person to the core. That's because oats are good for you! It only takes two portions of oat cereal per day to lower your LDL cholesterol. (Davy et al [2002] High Fiber Oat Cereal compared with Wheat Cereal Consumption Favorably Alters LDL-Cholesterol Subclass and Particle Numbers in Middle-Aged and Older Men, Am J Clin Nutr 351-358) Oats can result in lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as seen in a comparison study conducted with a group of people that followed a lower fiber diet. (Keenan et al, [2002] Oat Ingestion Reduces Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure in Patients with Milk or Borderline Hypertension: a Pilot Trial, J Family Practice, 369.) Research has also shown that by enjoying oats on a regular basis you may lower your systolic blood pressure and blood lipids (Slatzman et al [2001] An Oat Containing Hypocaloric Diet Reduces Systolic Blood Pressure and Improves Lipid Profile Beyond Effects of Weight Loss in Men and Women, J Nutr. 1465-1470.)
