Melissa & Doug Wooden Make A Cake Mixer Set

Product Description

Mix up some delicious pretend-play fun with this realistic wooden mixer. Turn dials to "adjust speed" and use the crank to turn the bowl that fits the mixer. Wooden ingredients include two pats of butter and a two-part egg, both of which have self stick tabs that can be sliced through with the child-friendly wooden knife. Follow the directions on the recipe card to make pound cake - the set includes a pound cake mix box, pretend pound cake loaf, and a cake pan.

Preparation Instructions

Extension Activities: Have the child identify all the items in the mixer set. Talk about the parts of the mixer, how to use the knife and cake pan, and how the butter, egg, and cake mix combine to make the cake. Line up the egg and the butter and have the child count the pieces. Have the child use the knife to crack the egg open and to slice the butter, and then have him or her count the pieces. Talk about whole and half. Have the child show you the whole egg, and then show you half of the egg. Have the child turn the dial on the mixer to the numbers as you say them aloud. Explain that on mixers, lower number settings mean the beater turns slower and higher number settings make the beater turn faster. Have the child set the dial to 1 and turn the beater crank slowly, and set it to 6 and turn the crank very quickly. Challenge him or her to spin the crank at appropriate speed for various settings. Read the recipe card with the child. Have him or her use a pencil to check of the ingredients needed to make the cake as he or she sets them in front of the mixer. Read the directions to the child and ask him or her to perform each step. Look at the Variations on the back of the pound cake mix box. If you have the flavors or ingredients in your kitchen, such as lemon, vanilla, chocolate chips, or berries, encourage the child to smell them - and even taste them! Have the child draw and cut out pictures of his or her favorite flavors, fruits, or toppings to decorate the pound cake. Encourage the child to imagine running a bakery. What would its name be? What would it look like? What kind of drinks would the child serve for customers? What treats would the child bake and serve?
