    Ingredients

    Whole Grain Oats.
  • Cooking Directions: Irish Porridge: Briskly boil 4 cups of water; sprinkle 1 cup of oatmeal, stirring well. Reduce heat and simmer on low to medium low, uncovered, for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and allow to stand for 2-3 minutes before serving. Traditionally served with fresh buttermilk, Irish porridge is also good with milk, cream, brown sugar, honey, or butter. Shortcut to Steel Cut Method: Boil 4 cups of water in a pot. Add 1 cup of steel cut oats and simmer 5 minutes. Cover pot and store overnight in refrigerator. The next morning, cook the oatmeal on low for 9-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. This recipe makes 4 servings. For thicker oatmeal, use less water. Tear to open.
