Preparation Instructions

Keep in a cool, dry place. Chart for Desired Number of Servings: 2 servings - approx cups of cooked rice: 1/2 cup rice; 1 cup water; 1/4 teaspoon salt - optional; 1/2 teaspoon butter/margarine - optional. 4 servings - approx cups of cooked rice: 1 cup rice; 2 cups water; 1/2 teaspoon salt - optional; 1 teaspoon butter/margarine - optional. 8 servings - approx cups of cooked rice: 2 cups rice; 4 cups water; 3/4 teaspoon salt - optional; 2 teaspoons butter/margarine - optional. 12 servings - approx cups of cooked rice: 3 cups rice; 6 cups water; 1 teaspoon salt - optional; 3 teaspoons butter/margarine - optional. Cooking: Stove Top: 1) Bring water to a boil in a heavy sauce pan (Add margarine and salt, if desired. For drier rice, use less water. For softer rice, use more water and simmer for longer period of time. To retain vitamins, do not rinse before or drain after cooking. Do not lift lid while cooking). 2) Stir in rice. 3) Cover. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Fluff with fork and serve. Microwave: 1) I n a 2 quart microwave-safe dish, combine water and rice (Add margarine and salt, if desired. For drier rice, use less water. For softer rice, use more water and simmer for longer period of time. To retain vitamins, do not rinse before or drain after cooking. Do not lift lid while cooking). 2) Cover and microwave on High until mixture come to a boil (about 5 minutes). 3) Reduce to medium (50% power), microwave for 15 minutes or until all of the water is absorbed. 4) Remove from microwave and let stand for 5 minutes until water is fully absorbed. If your microwave does not have variable power settings, follow manufacturer's directions. Microwave ovens vary. Times given are approximate.
