Description
Responsibly raised in a certified safe water ecosystem, these fresh live black mussels from H-E-B are great for making a gourmet-level appetizer. Great steamed in their shells with white wine, butter, shallots, parsley and pepper, they open up after being cooked and go well with hunks of fresh bread on the side. Packed with a sweet, briny taste, they have a firm texture much like a mushroom. For an idea of how much to order, 1 lb of mussels serves about 1 - 2 people.

Ingredients
Mussels.Allergens and safety warnings
Keep refrigerated.- Stovetop: Remove mussels from bag and rinse well under cold water. Discard any broken or open mussels. Heat 2 Tbsp oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and onion. Cook until translucent. Add 1 lb of mussels and 1/2 cup water to pan. Substitute cooking wine or chicken broth for added flavor. Cover and steam for 2 - 3 minutes until mussels open and internal temperature is 145°F. Add 1 minute cooking time per additional 1/2 lb over 1 lb. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve. Also great for grilling.
