Falernia winery is located in Elqui Valley, near the small town of La Serena, 300 miles north of Santiago and is at present, Chile's northernmost wine estate. The climate is semiarid with a dramatic contrast between day and night time temperature. Grapes were hand picked from a single vineyard in Vicuna called Rio at an elevation of 1700 feet above sea level. Grapes was partially dried on the vines in order to yield a more complex and concentrated fruit. The soil is very rocky and microclimate gives the ripness to the tannins and particular Appassimento character to the wine. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 72 degrees F.
