Preparation instructions

Other Ingredients You Will Need: For the caramel sauce: 1 1/2 sticks butter and 1/3 cup heavy cream For the cake: 1 ½ cups water, 1 stick butter (softened), 2 eggs (room temperature) DIRECTIONS FOR PERFECTION: Preheat oven to 350F. Grease an 8" cake pan, set aside. Place the dates and water in a sauce pan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Allow to simmer for 1-2 minutes. Set aside to cool. Prepare caramel sauce by combining contents of caramel packet, butter and heavy cream in a saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened and well blended. Set aside to cool. Cream the butter and contents of the sugar packet together in the bowl of an electric mixer using the paddle attachment, until pale and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, scrapping down the sides of the bowl as needed. Add contents of flour packet to bowl and mix on low to combine. Add the cooled date mixture in two batches. Scrape down sides of the bowl as needed. Transfer batter to prepared pan. Bake for about 30-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the center of cake comes out clean. Once cake is baking prepare caramel sauce. Combine contents of caramel packet, butter and heavy cream in a saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer for 1-2 minutes until thickened and well blended. Once cake is baked, poke all over with a toothpick, pour half of the warm caramel sauce over hot cake and allow to cool for about 10-15 minutes. Turn cake out onto a serving plate. Wait for cake to cool to room temperature before pouring the remainder of the cooled caramel sauce over it. Serve and enjoy!
