Picadillo is a comfort food that is a commonly served as a side dish or stand-alone meal in many Latin-American countries. Picadillo is commonly served with rice, or used to fill tacos, pastries or croquettes. It has a sweet and salty flavor that is traditionally made with ground meat and tomatoes, however adding onions, peppers and a variety of vegetables can give your Picadillo a unique twist of extra flavor. If you like, the dish can be sweetened with honey or sugar while it is being cooked to produce a teriyaki type flavor. In several recipes raisins and olives can be added to give your Picadillo an exceptional unique taste.
