The Three C's of Champagne Toasts Follow this simple three-step guide to storing, opening and serving Champagne. Then gather friends and family around and raise your glass. Salud! Chill to Thrill Champagne should always be well chilled. Store in a cool, dark place. Before serving, refrigerate upright for two hours or chill for 30 minutes in a bucket, half-filled with ice and water. Do not chill champagne by placing it in the freezer. Cork's Away Never shake a champagne bottle and always point the cork away from people when opening. Start by removing the foil and wire hood, then grasp the cork with one hand and hold the bottom of the bottle in the other hand. Hold the cork firmly at a 45-degree angle and turn the bottle. The natural pressure in the bottle will push the cork out with a slight pop or sigh. Clink Before You Drink It is customary to clink glasses after the toast is given, but before it is drunk. This tradition is meant to ward off evil spirits. If you don't clink gently, this custom may not have the desired effect. |
