If you want to put a new face on your pumpkin this year, you won't
have to go much farther than your own backyard or neighborhood.
There, you'll find a
natural bounty of materials
that can be used to create a jack-o'-lantern that's definitely one
of a kind.
All you need is a little imagination. Does that funny-looking pinecone
laying on the grass look like a nose? Could those acorns be beady,
little eyes? Hmmm, maybe if you arrange those twigs just right,
they could look like a frightful hairdo. You can also add
fruits
and vegetables you have on hand in your own kitchen or available
at your local H-E-B store.
Here's what you'll need to create a nature-ly decorated pumpkin:
- Pumpkin
- Assorted produce
- Natural objects
- Round toothpicks, small nails and a glue gun
- Small hammer (for tapping toothpicks or nails through thicker
materials)
Here are a few garden-variety suggestions:
Hair: Twigs, parsley, raffia, corn husks, corn
silk, dried leaves, vines, green onion stalks
Nose: Pinecones, carrots, small gourds, Indian
corn, zucchini, cucumber, seed pods, green beans
Eyes & Ears: Radishes, acorns, nuts, citrus
