Hurricane!
Yearly season: June 1 through November 30

aerial view of a hurricanespacerWhen the winds of a tropical storm exceed 73 miles per hour, a hurricane is born. This year, The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting greater activity than normal for Atlantic-based storms, predicting 12 to 15 tropical storms, with six to eight possibly becoming hurricanes. Of those six to eight hurricanes, two to four are predicted to develop into major storms (Category 3 or above on the Saffir-Simpson scale).

Even if you don't live in an area directly hit by hurricanes, heavy rains and flooding are still possible within hundreds of miles. So be ready for any storm with these preparation, evacuation and safety tips, handy tracking map, and more.
