Creamy Creations: The Big Chill Apple Pie. Pecan Pie. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Are you getting a brain freeze yet? And those are just some of the names of Creamy Creations Ice Cream! Wait 'til you dip in to the flavor. 
"Creamy Creations is the best ice cream customers will ever
taste," exclaims Elsa Underwood proudly. She ought to know. She's H-E-B's
Business Manager for Frozen Foods, and it's her job to make sure every scoop
is deliciously smooth and tasty. "Our customers can feel confident that
every Creamy Creations they buy will always be first-rate because of H-E-B's
commitment to quality. In fact," Underwood continues, "Creamy Creations
is so flavorful, that if you do taste it, you are sold!"And indeed, there's a lot of scooping going on. To meet customer demand, the H-E-B Dairy Plant in San Antonio produces 3,600,000 gallons each year. That's enough ice cream to make 116 million ice cream cones! So what makes Creamy Creations so special? (Besides the taste, of course.) Well, according to Underwood it's because H-E-B focuses specifically on Texas taste buds.
And, no matter what time of the year, H-E-B searches out the finest ingredients for all its flavors, such as using velvety, smooth chocolate from Holland and rich, aromatic vanilla all the way from Madagascar. Ever since H-E-B introduced Creamy Creations into its stores in 1998, the response from customers has, and continues to be, extraordinary. Underwood credits that to teamwork—not only from the H-E-B ice cream team but from H-E-B customers, too. "We count on our customers' comments for guidance," explains Underwood. "So, when we want to introduce a new flavor, we ask our customers first, then we create the recipe." But H-E-B doesn't stop there. "We return to our customers again," says Underwood, "and ask their opinion through test panels conducted at the stores. Our aim is to obtain their feedback through the taste panels so we can exceed their expectations." Underwood sums it up by saying," We focus on the customers' wants and heed their suggestions. Once all customer comments are reviewed, with all agreeing that every spoonful is 'smooth' and 'creamy,' then the H-E-B team decides on a name for the new flavor." To ensure the highest quality and freshness, each carton is super-frozen at the plant to minus-40 degrees, then whisked off directly to your H-E-B frozen-food aisle. And what's the number-one selling Creamy Creations ice cream? "Homemade Vanilla," says Underwood. "It's so good we wouldn't dare call it plain." |
