2010Flowers Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir-California-Sonoma Valley

The Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a deep garnet color with ruby highlights. This Pinot Noir has expressive aromas of dark berry fruit, black tea, and dried cranberry with earthy nuances of oregano, spice and sweet tobacco. Delivering flavors of ripe plum, fig, orange and licorice, this wine is bold; yet, graceful on the palate with supple tannins and a lingering coastal minerality on the finish.

This is blended from Flowers' far-coast estate-grown fruit and selections from growers in the wester reaches of Sonoma Coast; there's also a portion from Gaps Crown a notably ocean-influenced vineyard east of Highway 101. This wine stands apart for its clear focus a clean presentation of Sonoma's far coast. The primary fruit is a frame for the soil character a resinous scent rooty but more elegant than that might imply.

Perched on top of soaring coastal ridges that border the Pacific Ocean, Flowers estate vineyards were some of the first planted on the extreme Sonoma Coast (1991). Flowers vineyards rise up just two miles from the rugged Pacific Ocean cliffs at elevations of 1,150 to 1,875 feet. The maritime breezes and coastal fog cool the vineyards during the heat of summer allowing fruit to fully mature with fresh, complex flavors and lively acidity.
