Bodegas Bret?n was founded in 1983, their original winemaking facility in Logro?o completed just prior to the 1985 harvest. From Although of relatively recent origin, Bret?n takes a decidedly traditional approach. While striving for the highest integrity of fruit in the wines, the primary objective is preservation of the elegant, expressive Rioja Alta flavor profile.
The Bret?n partnership was expanded in 2012 through the entry of a new majority partner, Uni?n de Viticultores Riojanos, adding over 700 acres of mature vineyards throughout the Rioja Alta and Alavesa to Bret?n's original estate. Average vineyard age approaches 40 years, the highest of any major Rioja producer. Grape varieties grown are primarily Tempranillo, with an unusually high percentage of old-vine Graciano.
