2008Altesino Brunello di Montalcino

Sangiovese-Italy-Tuscany

Brunello is considered among Italy's top-quality wines. Made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes hand-harvested from the Altesino, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Macina, and Pianezzine vineyards, this wine is an example of finesse and elegance inherent to Montalcino's best vineyard sites. Ruby-red with a garnet rim, this wine's bouquet displays ample aromas of violet, wild berries, tobacco, chocolate, and vanilla. On the palate, Altesino Brunello is rich, full-bodied, and velvety.

Medium-dark red with a pale rim. Enticing aromas of raspberry, strawberry jelly, rose and violet. Dense and suave in the mouth, with harmonious acidity lifting the sweet red cherry and dark berry flavors. Finishes very long, with plenty of mineral zing and a spicy nuance. Great stuff, in a year that's widely perceived to be less important than many other recent vintages. I should point out that 100,000 bottles of this high-quality wine were made.
