Anniversary Kickoff events will celebrate 65 years in Waco and 55 years in Temple

(WACO)- H-E-B is celebrating 120 years total of serving Central Texas - 65 years in Waco and 55 in Temple - with anniversary kickoff events to at all Waco and Temple H-E-B stores on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. H-E-B first opened its doors in Waco in 1948 and in Temple in 1958 and will be marking these special anniversaries with yearlong celebrations.
H-E-B shoppers who attend the anniversary celebrations March 2 and 3 can expect to find fantastic live entertainment from local community groups, demonstrations, food samples and lots of fun! Both Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 at Noon, shoppers at all Temple and Waco locations may enjoy a celebratory slice of cake.
Shoppers are encouraged to cast their votes for the local nonprofit organization of their choice in ALL Temple and Waco-area stores March 1 and 2. The winning Temple nonprofit will be awarded with $5,500 and the winning Waco organization will be awarded $6,500 in celebration of H-E-B's longstanding commitment to both the Temple and Waco communities.
Winners will be announced at Noon on Sunday, March 3 at the 3002 South 31st Street H-E-B in Temple and at 1301 Wooded Acres H-E-B in Waco. On Sunday, Temple Mayor Bill Jones will be on hand at the Temple H-E-B and Waco Mayor Malcolm Duncan will attend the celebration at the Waco location. Both will present H-E-B with proclamations to commemorate the 55 and 65 years of service to the Temple and Waco communities.

- Operation Finally Home
- Temple ISD Education Foundation
- Keep Temple Beautiful
- Salvation Army Food Pantry
Waco-area participants may choose from the following nonprofit organizations:

- Caritas of Waco
- Waco ISD Education Foundation

H-E-B donates more than five percent of their pre-taxed earnings to area nonprofit organizations to help strengthen communities in Central Texas.
Serving as one of the largest employers in Central Texas, H-E-B currently employs 2,152 partners (employees) in Waco and Temple alone.
H-E-B has a long history of investing in Waco and Temple over the last 65 years, from store improvements to job development. Since 2009 H-E-B has invested more than $112 million in H-E-B locations in Waco and Temple, including the current Temple 2 store located at 3002 South 31st Street remodel which will debut in late March of this year along with the new Waco 1 store at Valley Mills and IH35, opening its doors in September, 2013. Additionally, H-E-B remodeled the Bellmead H-E-B plus! in 2011 to better serve the surrounding community and opened the Temple Distribution Center debuted in 2009 to service 57 H-E-B stores across the Central region. The Temple Distribution Center expanded in 2012 and now employs approximately 400 partners.

March 2nd also commemorates Texas Independence Day! In celebration of H-E-B's Texas roots and in conjunction with the anniversary events the stores will be celebrating TexFest, a two-week in-store event to celebrate the food, people and products that make Texas uniquely Texan. H-E-B's TexFest takes place statewide February 27 - March 12. The celebration will include free samplings of Texas grown food and beverage products. Special, eye-catching signage will be on display throughout the stores to showcase to customers the Texas-made products they can purchase to show their state pride. Special store events include TexFest Meal Deals, Combo Locos, Texas Showdowns and special demonstrations from Cooking Connection and Showtime events.
