(SAN ANTONIO) - Today, The Scorpions and Boysville each were the recipients of a major gift to help H-E-B celebrate its 70th anniversary of serving the San Antonio community. The announcement was made during a special in-store birthday celebration at the H-E-B plus! at 9238 North Loop 1604 West. The Scorpions team members were also on hand to help H-E-B celebrate.
During today's event, H-E-B representatives announced a five-year partnership with The Scorpions that includes a $125,000 a year donation to Morgan's Wonderland and a $125,000 a year donation to Soccer for a Cause - each for five years.
In recognition of Boysville also celebrating 70 years of serving San Antonio, H-E-B presented $70,000 to the non-profit organization to help provide more shelter for children in need. The real surprise came when H-E-B added a zero to the $7,000 giant mock check during the news conference, and shocked Boysville representatives with bigger donation representing each year of service to the community.
"It's been an honor serving the San Antonio community for 70 years, and we look forward to many more celebrations," said Greg Souquette, H-E-B Senior Vice President. "H-E-B is excited to support The Scorpions and Boysville, and all the benefits these organizations bring to this community."
San Antonio Philanthropist and Morgan's Wonderland Founder Gordon Hartman joined H-E-B today for the news of the partnership, and expressed his gratitude. "H-E-B continues to be an amazing corporate partner to this city, and today, they have further shown their commitment and dedication to this community's non-profit organizations. This is a huge win for the families who visit Morgan's Wonderland, and to our city's Scorpions soccer fans."
Boysville CEO Lt. General David McIlvoy echoed Hartman's comments. "We are honored to share this anniversary milestone, and appreciate H-E-B's continued support of Boysville over the years. Today was an amazing surprise and a significant donation that will help us expand much-needed programs for kids and families in need. Thank you H-E-B."
A Scorpions soccer jersey, autographed by the Scorpion team members, was presented to H-E-B and will be raffled off to customers. Two other jerseys were presented to the Scorpions Charitable Foundation and Boysville for future fundraiser events. The Scorpions soccer players joined in the celebration and signed autographs and took pictures with customers, as well as helped serve birthday cake to guests. A 70th anniversary Fiesta medal was also unveiled at the event and handed out to guests.
