Herbed Halibut Steaks With Tartar Sauce

4(6 oz) halibut steaks, 3/4 inch thick,

12cucumber slices,

1/2cup(2 oz) shredded Cheddar cheese,

1/4cupplain yogurt,

1tablespoonsnipped chives,

*Tartar Sauce:,

1/4cupmayonnaise or salad dressing,

1/4cupchopped dill pickle,

1teaspoongrated onion (or 1/8 teaspoon onion powder),

*freshly ground pepper and salt to taste,

1/2package(4 oz) semi-soft natural cheese with garlic and herbs,

1/4cuptartar sauce,


1Combine all ingredients for tartar sauce and mix well. Cover and refrigerate until needed, up to three days. Makes 3/4 cup.

2In a small bowl, whisk together cheese and tartar sauce.

3Arrange halibut steaks in a 12x7 inch baking dish, placing larger pieces toward the outside of the dish.

4Spread cheese mixture over steaks.

5Cover dish with vented plastic wrap. Microwave at 100% (High) 7 to 8 minutes (rotate fish a half turn after 4 minutes) or until center of fish begins to flake when tested with a fork.

6Top steaks with cucumber slices. Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese and chives. Microwave, uncovered at 100% (High) 2 1/2 minutes or until cheese melts.

7Let fish stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
