Rolled Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

1/2cupwhite or brown sugar,

1/2cupbutter,

1teaspoonvanilla,

2eggs,

2 1/2cupssifted all-purpose flour,

2teaspoondouble-acting baking powder,

1/2teaspoonsalt,

Directions

1In a large electric mixing bowl, cream sugar with the butter until light and fluffy.

2Beat in vanilla, eggs, flour, baking powder, and salt.

3Divide dough into 3 balls.

4Place in sealable plastic bags and chill 3 to 4 hours before rolling.

5Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease two cookie sheets.

6Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into 1/4 inch thickness and cut desired shapes with cookie cutters.

7Use a metal spatula to transfer cookies to prepared baking sheets.

8Top with colored sugar if desired.

9Bake approximately 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

10Remove from cookie sheet and cool. Decorate with icing, coconut, candies, or whatever you like.
