Herbed Halibut Steaks With Tartar Sauce

4 (6 oz) halibut steaks, 3/4 inch thick

12 cucumber slices

1/2 cup (2 oz) shredded Cheddar cheese

1/4 cup plain yogurt

1 tablespoon snipped chives

* Tartar Sauce:

1/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing

1/4 cup chopped dill pickle

1 teaspoon grated onion (or 1/8 teaspoon onion powder)

* freshly ground pepper and salt to taste

1/2 package (4 oz) semi-soft natural cheese with garlic and herbs

1/4 cup tartar sauce


Combine all ingredients for tartar sauce and mix well. Cover and refri
gerate until needed, up to three days. Makes 3/4 cup.
In a small bowl, whisk together cheese and tartar sauce.
Arrange halibut steaks in a 12x7 inch baking dish, placing larger piec
es toward the outside of the dish.
Spread cheese mixture over steaks.
Cover dish with vented plastic wrap. Microwave at 100% (High) 7 to 8 m
inutes (rotate fish a half turn after 4 minutes) or until center of fi
sh begins to flake when tested with a fork.
Top steaks with cucumber slices. Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese and chiv
es. Microwave, uncovered at 100% (High) 2 1/2 minutes or until cheese
Let fish stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
