Pork And Pepperoni Pizza Burgers
1 pound Lean Ground Pork
2/3 cup chopped pepperoni (about 3 ounces)
1/2 cup Italian-style dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup pizza or pasta sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1 each ripe medium tomato
4 each slices mozzarella cheese
4 each hamburger buns or Kaiser rolls
* mayonnaise, optional
Heat charcoal 30 minutes until covered with a light layer of gray ash
or heat gas grill on High 10 minutes with lid closed.
Chop pepperoni. Blend pepperoni, ground pork, bread crumbs, pizza sauc
e and oregano leaves in a medium bowl. Shape mixture into four 1/2 –in
ch thick burgers.
Thinly slice tomato and set aside.
Grill burgers 4 inches above Medium heat (375 degrees F grill surface
temperature). Hold palm just above grate. If heat causes you to pull a
way in 4 seconds, heat is ideal. Cook 5 minutes per side.
Top each patty with a slice of cheese after turning.
Remove burgers from heat when a meat thermometer inserted horizontally
into the center of the burger reads 160 degrees F.
Spread bun with mayonnaise, if desired. Top with burger and sliced tom
