Rolled Sugar Cookies

40 cookies

1/2 cup white or brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs

2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

2 teaspoon double-acting baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt


In a large electric mixing bowl, cream sugar with the butter until lig
ht and fluffy.
Beat in vanilla, eggs, flour, baking powder, and salt.
Divide dough into 3 balls.
Place in sealable plastic bags and chill 3 to 4 hours before rolling.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease two cookie sheets.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into 1/4 inch thickness and cu
t desired shapes with cookie cutters.
Use a metal spatula to transfer cookies to prepared baking sheets.
Top with colored sugar if desired.
Bake approximately 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove from cookie sheet and cool. Decorate with icing, coconut, candi
es, or whatever you like.
