H-E-B Kicks Off Help End Hunger Campaign in Texas
Campaign Begins April 16 to Benefit Texas Food Banks

San Antonio—In cities across Texas, residents are invited to help in the fight against hunger and malnutrition by joining H-E-B in its Help End Hunger campaign.

At all Texas H-E-B stores, customers can combat hunger and support the Help End Hunger campaign by tearing-off the $1, $3 or $5 coupons that are being displayed at every H-E-B check stand and adding the desired amount to their final grocery bill. All funds collected in this way will then be awarded to food banks servicing the community where the funds where raised. The campaign begins April 16 and runs through July 3.

In Texas, one of the most agriculturally rich states in the nation, more than 3.1 million people in the state don't always know where they will get their next meal. This number includes approximately 874,000 Texans who also suffer from outright hunger, where at least one family member has skipped meals due to limited resources.

Help End Hunger is a component of H-E-B's Food Bank Assistance Program that began in 1982. Today, the program supports 21 food banks throughout Texas and Mexico, which in turn serve more than 8,000 nonprofit organizations. The H-E-B Food Bank Assistance Program is nationally recognized as one of the strongest and most committed food bank assistance programs in the United States and Mexico. Last year, customers raised $410,000 for Texas food banks.

"One of every five people in Texas lives in poverty," said Eddie Garcia, H-E-B Food Bank Coordinator. "Through Help End Hunger, we hope to not only raises awareness about the plight facing thousands of Texans every day but also assist our local food banks in being able to continue meeting their basic nutritional needs."

Founded in Kerrville, Texas in 1905, H-E-B proudly employs approximately 60,000 employees and operates 300 stores throughout Texas and internationally in Mexico.
