H-E-B goodness! Challenge Seeks Families Wanting To Get Healthy

Three Families will Win the Opportunity to Live Better in ’07 with Free Nutritional Advice, Health Check-ups, Gift Cards and More

(SAN ANTONIO) – With the New Year come resolutions to get healthy. Inspired by this, H-E-B is making its own resolution to help three families live better in 2007 and has partnered with Baptist Health System and the San Antonio Express-News to make it happen.

On Wednesday, representatives from the three partners gathered at the H-E-B Plus store on Zarzamora to announce the “H-E-B goodness! Challenge.” Setting the tone during the announcement was a family of four, who worked out in the store with jump ropes, an exercise bike and free weights to demonstrate the fun a family can have in getting healthy together.

The H-E-B goodness! Challenge borrows its name from the company’s popular, in-store wellness magazine, H-E-B goodness! Customers can pick up an entry form for the challenge at a participating H-E-B store at the business center or pharmacy counter. Entries can also be found online at www.heb.com/challenge. Participants will be asked to submit a 75-word essay that asks why their family should be selected for a “goodness” makeover. Entries must be postmarked by March 5, 2007. The challenge is open to families in San Antonio and its surrounding areas including; Seguin, New Braunfels, Floresville, Pleasanton, Bulverde, Boerne, Fredericksburg and Kerrville.

Three winning families will be selected in March and will then begin the three-month challenge which runs through June. Their experiences will be chronicled in H-E-B goodness! and the San Antonio Express-News as well as on www.heb.com/challenge, www.mysa.com and www.baptisthealthsystem.com.

To reward the families for taking up the challenge and help them meet their health goals, each will receive:

  • A free, three-month family membership to Baptist HealthLink wellness and fitness center
  • $100 a week in H-E-B gift cards to “buy healthy” throughout the challenge
  • Nutritional counseling and a specially designed activity program from H-E-B Pharmacy
  • Nutritional advice and cooking lessons from an H-E-B nutritionist
  • Health supplement advice and guidance from H-E-B’s director of Healthy Living
  • Free physicals, health screenings, medical advice and monthly visits throughout the challenge from Baptist Health System
“We take a great interest in the health and well-being of our customers and this is one more way in which we hope to inspire them to meet their goals for a healthy future,” said Dya Campos, Director of Public Affairs for H-E-B. “We look forward to seeing the progress they make as they take on the challenge.”
