H-E-B Customer Granted the Holiday Wish of a Lifetime

20-year-old Celeste Ready of Crosby, Texas to be presented with $50,000

CROSBY, TX – Dec. 20, 2007 –With her inspirational essay describing her remarkable personal comeback from debilitating injuries caused by a car accident, 20-year-old Celeste Ready of Crosby, Texas won a holiday wish from H-E-B. On Thursday, company representatives traveled to Crosby in the H-E-B RV to surprise Ready in her home and present to her a check for $50,000.

Ready shared her personal story through a 250-word essay entry to the My H-E-B Holiday Wish contest held in partnership with Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Walt Disney in celebration of the release of its hit motion picture Enchanted.

The contest asked customers across the state to write-in and describe the one wish that if granted, would powerfully impact their lives.

At age 17, Ready was involved in a car accident that resulted in the loss of both her legs. Despite this, Ready displays a joy for life that is contagious and which inspires those around her. In her essay, Ready writes that if awarded a wish, she would use the funds to purchase a new car or possibly a small home so she can enjoy a taste of independent living.

In addition to Ready, H-E-B awarded other prizes to customers across Texas. One First Prize winner received a family trip for four to New York City, including hotel accommodations for two nights, a $250 food stipend, four tickets to see a Broadway play and a $500 shopping spree at The Disney Store.

Six Second Prize winners received a family trip for four to Walt Disney World, hotel accommodations for three nights, a $250 food stipend, and four Disney theme park tickets.

Rounding out the awarded prizes, 10 Third Prize winners received a $1,000 H-E-B Gift Card, 25 Fourth Prize winners received a $500 H-E-B Gift Card and 50 Fifth Prize winners were awarded a $250 H-E-B Gift Card. To fulfill the prizes, H-E-B partnered with Walt Disney, Southwest Airlines, FunJet and Procter & Gamble.
